Ranchi -the city of waterfall, is taking one more step towards it's women's safety. Pink auto is an initiative towards ensuring women safety. It tries to make women feel safe within a ride to their destination. Due to some work recently I have been to Ranchi and suddenly I found this pink auto. It's driver is also a female. Once again these ladies proved that women can do any work.
In the fifteen minutes auto ride, I came to know from my auto driver Laxmi Didi(name changed), that she is driving pink auto for almost 2 years and this initiative has started few years back. Laxmi Didi looked liked she is in her mid 30s and a jolly person. I asked her what she was doing before working as an auto driver and she replied she was working as a domestic help. She continued that her income was not good at all and her husband is also working as a daily labour with minimum wage. She is married for last 10 years and is mother of two children. As her kids are growing she is found it difficult to manage things with her family's little income. Pink auto gave her a way out of her financial problems. She told that "गर्मी के समय में ऑटो चलाना बहुत मुश्किल हो जाता है, लेकिन फिर भी मेरी आय में बढ़ोती हुई है, मेरी मेहनत का फल मिल रहा है मुझे". Like Laxi Didi , many women was there driving pink auto and from my bottom of heart I feel some of them may have same kind of story like Laxmi Didi and pink auto appeared as real blessings in their life.
What about the passengers of pink auto? I personally feel great after riding it and my friend Anjali (who is also a social worker) was also excited about it. Other lady passengers told that it is very difficult to adjust with men in the short space of general auto, sometimes unwanted and irritating touches are also available as gifts of sitting with males and pink auto is giving freedom from all those things. They told that pink auto is a revolutionary step. Me and my friend were discussing it will be excellent if pink auto riches to every corner of our nation.
